Shiny Side Up Or Shiny Side Down?

Posted By Mark OSullivan Monday, 7th June 2010 9:11am

Brains – they're complicated things aren't they? Well, not mine – it's pretty simple to be honest. But sometimes the most pointless things can keep me awake at night.

For example, just the other night there was no way I was getting to sleep due to the fact I was thinking about tin foil – yes you read it right – TIN FOIL kept me awake!

Why? Well, I did my sandwiches for work the night before like I always try to do, but instead of wrapping them in cling film I used foil. Noting wrong with that I hear you say, and you're correct – absolutely nothing wrong with it.

But for some reason I asked myself the question "Shiny side up or shiny side down?” And it was bugging me all night. So I posted the question on Facebook. And 15 responses later I got this message:

Shine up... reflects heat off it so up if you're putting it on a grill pan or cooking potato wedges on it... The dull side absorbs the heat so if you are wrapping something in it like a chicken breast or jacket potato then you put it dull side on the outside!

I didn't realise it was that technical, but at least I now know and can sleep easy tonight.

Now – do you iron your clothes inside out or not?……..
