Rules For The Hinckley And Rugby Building Society Challenge
On 107.1 Rugby FM

Entry procedure

Entry is open to any group of 4 individuals in year 11 representing a school, college, youth group or other organisation deemed acceptable by Rugby FM.

A school, college, youth group or other organisation may enter more than one team, however in the event of a draw taking place to decide teams the first team drawn from a particular school, college, youth group or other organisation shall be allowed to participate and other entries will be excluded from the rest of the draw.

Entry shall be on the official entry form available from Rugby FM.

All entries must be countersigned on behalf of the school, college, youth group or organisation that the entrants are representing.

By completing an entry form and participating in the recording all participants agree to abide by the rules of the Competition and agree to the broadcast of their entry on 107.1 Rugby FM.

Each team shall appoint a Captain.

In the event of more entries than places available in the competition a draw shall take place to determine the teams entering.

First Round Stage

Participating teams will be invited to attend the studios of Rugby FM to record their entry.

Entries may be edited for broadcast.

Spotlight round

Each entrant will be invited to choose to go under the spotlight and answer a barrage of questions in 60 seconds.

Entrants may choose from Arts, Entertainment, Geography and Pot Luck.

Each category may be selected only once by each team.

Each correct answer will gain one point for the team total - an incorrect answer shall earn zero points for the team. A ‘pass’ shall be deemed to be an incorrect answer. Entrants may not return to questions ‘passed’.

At the end of 60 seconds, an entrant shall be given time to answer the final question. If a question has been started it shall be finished and the entrant shall be given time to answer the question.

The decision of the host shall be final in respect of all answers, the award of points and bonus points.

In certain circumstances, eg failure to record the entry the team may be asked to re-record their entry.

Team round

The team will work together answering General Knowledge questions over 180 seconds. The Captain of the team will give the team’s answer to the question.

Each correct answer will gain two points for the team total - an incorrect answer result in the deduction of a point. A ‘pass’ shall earn zero points. Entrants may not return to questions ‘passed’.

The decision of the host shall be final in respect of all answers, the award of points and bonus points.

The total scores shall be added together from all individual rounds and the team round to determine the final team total.

The four teams with the highest points totals will qualify for the semi-final stages.

The team with the highest score shall play the team with the fourth highest score and the team with the second highest score shall play the team with the third highest score.

In the event of a tie in team scores the team with the highest score in the team round will be deemed to be placed higher.

In the event that scores are still level, a draw will take place to determine which team qualifies / placing.

Semi Final and Finals Night

Teams, supporters, parents and friends will be invited to a location in the Rugby area for the recording of the semi-finals and final of the Competition together with prize giving. (All three programmes will be recorded on the same night)

The semi finals shall be a ‘knockout’ format.

Each entrant from each team will play a spotlight round (as above). The toss of a coin shall determine which team goes first.

The ‘team round’ shall be 240 seconds in duration and be ‘on the buzzer’ with both teams participating at the same time. Each entrant will have a buzzer. No conferring with teammates shall be allowed and a pass shall be deemed an incorrect answer.

Otherwise, scoring remains the same as the first round.

The team with the highest number of points at the end of the quiz shall be deemed the winner.

In the event of a tie, a single tie breaker question will be asked. A correct answer will progress the team to the final, an incorrect answer will send the other team through. If both teams choose not to answer a further tie break question will be asked. This process shall continue until a winner is found.

Final

The final shall follow the same format as the semi-final.

Substitute entrants

In the event that the four entrants who competed in the first round are not available for the recording of the semi-final or final, substitutes may be allowed at the discretion of Rugby FM.
