A Rugby man caught carrying a longbow down a street in the town has been jailed.
Andrzej Adrian Wisniewski, 33, of Avon Street, Rugby, appeared at Warwickshire Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (8 August) where he was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment
Magistrates also ordered that the weapon be destroyed. .
Wisniewski had previously appeared at the same court in July where he pleaded guilty to the offence.
On 18 July, at 7.17pm, officers responded to a report of a man near the railway station with what was initially described as a crossbow.
Armed officers were deployed and the man was located at his home on Avon Street and arrested. He had been carrying a longbow and arrow, and these were seized by officers.
In interview, Wisniewski admitted carrying the bow and arrow in a public place having bought it two weeks earlier. He was taking them back from his brother's house to fire in his garden. He stated he did not realise he was committing a criminal offence.
Inspector Dave Kettle said: "I don't know if Mr Wisniewski fancied himself as a bit of a modern day Robin Hood, but I do know that his actions led to a significant armed police response and to parts of Rugby being locked down."
