Call for new rules to help local traders

Friday, August 29th 2014 07:00

The group representing Coventry and Warwickshire's small businesses says some traders are going out of business - because the rates they pay are too high.

Businesses pay rates based on the size and value of their premises.

It works in the same way as when residential homes are charged council tax.

Ian O'Donnell is from the Coventry and Warwickshire Federation of Small Businesses.

He says rates should be worked out based on a company's profit instead.
